Greenville County Square

Project Scope

This 40-acre site will be transformed into a vibrant, mixed-use urban district, complementing downtown with a blend of commercial, residential, public/institutional, and service/industrial spaces. To accommodate the development, it will require the realignment of four existing roads. Each road requires new sewer, water, storm, power, and telecom. Reeves Young is providing site development services including 60,000 CY of export soil, 74,000 CY of cut/fill, 1.5 miles of stormwater infrastructure, 6+ miles of duct bank conduit, and 1 mile of water utilities. Demolition included 4 miles of curb and 850,000 SF of asphalt. It also includes the construction of 1 mile of new roads, including traffic signals. The major road of the four is University Ridge, a five-lane major throughfare that connects to downtown Greenville as well as the County Administrative Complex.

How do you pave the way for new amenities in a vibrant downtown area experiencing rapid growth?

Challenge Faced

As part of this large, mixed-use development in downtown Greenville and with the recent relocation of Greenville County’s Administrative Complex, Greenville County residents were having difficulty trying to access services at the new complex.

Solution Provided

To improve access for Greenville County residents following the relocation of the County Administrative Complex, Reeves Young devised a solution using approved plans and existing infrastructure to create temporary “new roads” without disrupting ongoing construction on the permanent roadway alignment and construction work at the site of the new Greenville County Squqre. The initial “new road” traversed the slab of the former County Administrative Complex, providing much-needed access. As construction progressed and the slab needed to be removed, Reeves Young crews utilized other existing infrastructure to create a subsequent temporary route. This innovative approach addressed a potential access issue without costly re-engineering or project delays and provided safe access for residents and businesses during construction.
