How do you execute a technically complex infrastructure project with multiple key stakeholders while maintaining a seamless project delivery?

Challenge Faced

The largest challenges that this project faced from the beginning was an aggressive design schedule, a tight construction delivery timeline, multiple project team members to coordinate, and multiple key stakeholders with a vested interest in project success.

Solution Provided

Working closely with the design and engineering teams, multiple design packages were utilized so that site work could begin while design on other areas was being finalized. The park and quarry sites had no existing utilities, so the need to release that scope of work took precedence. This approach enabled preconstruction efforts to commence and construction shortly after.  Once design was completed, competitive procurement began for the Quarry tunnel contractor. To mitigate schedule constraints further, Reeves Young utilized an alternative form of technology, employing blind bore drilling to create five, eight-foot shafts that were drilled at the site and protected against exposure to the reservoir. The completion of the Quarry project ensured the city 30 days of emergency drinking water. Based on Reeves Young’s performance on this complicated site work, we were then awarded the Design-Build contract for the completion of Westside Park, which would wrap the Quarry and serve as the City’s largest park.
