Sandy Springs advances $50 million police headquarters
The Sandy Springs City Council has approved updated designs and a budget for the expansion of the Police Headquarters and Municipal Court complex. The $50.7 million project will add approximately 24,000 square feet of space to the existing police headquarters, accommodating the municipal courthouse and allowing for future growth of Public Safety services. The expansion will feature a large outdoor plaza and a screen wall façade that aligns with the aesthetics of other city buildings, as well as a new fleet maintenance building! The updated budget estimates the cost of the Public Safety and court building at $36 million, the fleet maintenance building at $3.4 million, and an additional $11 million for design fees, contingencies, and other expenses. The project will also leave room for future expansions, such as a police shooting range training center and Fire Station 1. Construction is scheduled to begin in June, with substantial completion expected in 2024. Reeves Young anticipates challenges due to long lead times for materials.
